WSA's Judy Paul Joins Washington Square Park Arts Commitee
A big congratulations to long-time WSA board member Judy Paul, for being nominated and accepted to be on the Washington Square Park Community Arts Committee. The Washington Square Park Conservancy (WSPC) Community Arts Grants Program financially assists community organizations in carrying out arts programming activities in Washington Square Park. The WSPC Arts Grant program is now in its seventh year. Grants of up to $2,000 per event will be awarded.
Judy’s committee honor is recognition of a life of giving to Greenwich Village, celebrating its culture and giving back. She has lived in the Village for 40 years and was a member of Community Board 2 for 14 years, serving on its Parks and Landmarks committees.
She is deeply committed to art and expression in Greenwich Village and is a founding sponsor of The Village Trip, which according to its 2022 brochure is “a celebration of arts and activism—the wonderful and crazy stuff that has made Greenwich Village one of the greatest neighborhoods in the world for at least 150 years. It explores the past with walking tours, panel discussions, the inaugural Village Trip Lecture, and tributes to Village denizens like Phil Ochs and Charlie Parker. But its main goal is to honor the Village as a place where creativity still happens, music is played, actors trained, good trouble made, and everyone is inspired. The overlap of art and protest, hi-jinks and high ideals, is what marks Greenwich Village as such a vital place.”
The Village Trip just completed its fifth season which over the course of 2 weeks included 90 events including concerts, walks, talks, screenings, readings, special cocktails, cabaret, an art exhibition, and more. It was fabulous.
We are so excited for Judy to continue to find new ways to give back to our community with this new role on the Washington Square Park Conservancy Community Arts Committee. Well earned!
